Tennis

Tennis is a sport played between either two players (singles) or two teams of two players each (doubles). It involves hitting a felt-covered rubber ball with a racket over a net into the opponent’s court. The objective is to score points by ensuring that the ball lands in the designated areas on the opponent’s side, making it difficult for them to return the ball. The game is played on various surfaces, including grass, clay, and hard courts, each affecting the ball’s behavior and game strategies.

The scoring system in tennis comprises points, games, and sets, with players needing to win a specific number of games to win a set and a certain number of sets to win a match. Major professional tournaments, including the four Grand Slam events (Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open), feature a combination of single-elimination formats and various ranking points.

While tennis has origins tracing back to medieval times in France, it has evolved into a highly popular sport worldwide, characterized by its unique blend of athleticism, strategy, and precision. It is governed by the International Tennis Federation (ITF).
