Oklahoma

Oklahoma is a state located in the South Central region of the United States. It is bordered by Kansas to the north, Missouri to the northeast, Arkansas to the east, Texas to the south, New Mexico to the west, and Colorado to the northwest. The state capital and largest city is Oklahoma City. Oklahoma is known for its diverse geography, which includes plains, forests, and mountains, as well as its rich Native American history and cultural heritage.

The name “Oklahoma” is derived from the Choctaw words “okla” meaning “people” and “homa” meaning “red,” thus translating to “red people.” This reflects the state’s historical connections to various Native American tribes. Oklahoma became the 46th state of the United States on November 16, 1907. The state has a mixed economy with notable sectors including agriculture, energy, aerospace, and biotechnology. Oklahoma is also recognized for its contributions to American culture, including music genres such as country and rock and various historical events such as the Oklahoma Land Rush.
